Connecting Windows XP with Service Pack 2
Windows XP Service Pack 2 has introduced some changes to the way wireless connections are established. Follow this guide to find out how to connect if you are using Service Pack 2.
We cannot provide support for 3rd party wireless client software, such
as that provided by your wireless card/adaptor manufacturer. We recommend
using the built in Windows XP wireless facility.
In order to ensure the Windows XP facility is in use, choose to install
only the drivers supplied with your card/adaptor. This may require re-installation
of your wireless card/adaptor. Users must also ensure the "Use Windows
to configure my wireless network settings" check box is ticked: (This
can be found in the properties section of your wireless network connection,
located under network connections - see step 2 below)

Step 1:
If your device is already wireless enabled, upon visiting one of our
venues and powering up your device, you should see something similar to
the image below on the bottom right of your screen:

Step 2:
Click the box and the following screen should appear:

Choose TeleGeneration and click connect.
The following warning will then be displayed:

Click "Connect Anyway" and your device will connect to TeleGeneration:

The gold star next to "TeleGeneration" means it is in your preferred list of networks. This list can be viewed by clicking on "Change the order of preferred networks"
Now open your web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) and you will be prompted
with a security warning. Click yes to proceed.*
You will now be directed to the TeleGeneration log in page** (see step 3)
*To avoid this prompt, install
the CA Certificate, and click open. Then click "Install Certificate"
and follow the prompts until "Import was successful" is displayed.
** This is regardless of any URL your browser defaults to.
Following this initial connection/set up, the next time you visit one
of our venues, your device should connect automatically, provided TeleGeneration
is listed in your preferred networks:
This section is found by doing the following:
-
Within control panel double click “network connections”
-
Right click your wireless network connection
-
Click “Properties”
-
Click the “Wireless Networks” tab

Automatic means that if a TeleGeneration access point is within range of your device, it will attempt to automatically connect.
Step 3:
If you are already subscribed to a TeleGeneration package, enter your
username and password in the appropriate boxes and click log in or press
enter.

A bluesocket client will load up in a separate web page and you will
now be able to browse the internet and send/receive emails at high speed,
without plugging in!
Important: Service Pack 2 installs a pop-up blocker, which prevents the Bluesocket log out window from appearing. For details on how to prevent this from happening, see our FAQs
If you are not subscribed, then click “Register Now” to be
redirected to the sign up section where you can fill in your details and
sign up for our free trial or purchase one of our packages.
Step 4:
When you have finished your session, you should log out using the bluesocket
log out link. This will then sign you off the service. If you fail to
log out, you may not be able to access the service again for up to an
hour.
Problems
1. I don’t get the “One or more wireless networks are available” notification:
If this happens, it may be because you are not within range of our access
point. However, for one reason or another, the notification may not have
appeared or may have disappeared. To view the available wireless networks,
do the following:
-
Within the Control Panel, double click “Network Connections”
-
Right click the icon for your wireless internet connection, and click
“View available networks”
-
Now continue from step 2 to connect.
2. I can’t get a dynamic IP address (Assigned by DHCP):
Firstly, open the the status window of your wireless connection.
This section is found by doing the following:
-
Within control panel double click “network connections”
-
Double click the wireless network connection icon.
Now click the "Support" tab, and click the "Repair" button. The following screen will now be displayed:
Windows will then reconnect to the network, and try to renew your IP address:
If this is successful, the following will be displayed:
Try re-opening your Internet browser and restart from step 3.
3. My dial-up connection keeps popping up
In order to prevent this, open Internet Explorer and click “Tools”
then “Internet Options” Click the “Connections”
tab in the window which appears. Click the option next to “Never
dial a connection”

Now click the “LAN Settings” button and ensure it looks like
the following:

4. Internet explorer looks like this:

Ensure your IP address is configured automatically:
In the “Network Connections” section (see problem 1) double
click the icon for your wireless network connection and the following
screen will appear:

Click “Properties” and the following screen will be displayed:

Select the TCP/IP option and click “Properties”. Ensure your
IP address is obtained automatically by selecting the “Obtain an
IP address automatically” option, and your DNS server is assigned
automatically by selecting “Obtain DNS server address automatically”.

Click OK on all windows and close any open internet browser and email
windows.
Restart from step 1.
